What does a bottle have to do with electricity? Let me tell you.
It was the French who first caught a lighting bolt in a wine bottle. You may ask, “why catch lightning in a wine bottle?”
Inspired by Benjamin Franklin’s ideas on catching lightning with a kite, they decided to put the idea into practice.
On a stormy evening in 1752, two men stood in a field waiting for lightning to strike. They had a 12 metre metal pole anchored into a wine bottle filled with water.
Lightning struck and the wine bottle held the electric charge. Enough to draw a spark.
This was proof that electrical charge was a force of nature just waiting to be captured and tamed by humans.
And tame it, we did.
Imagine a life today without electrical charge on tap.
